THE National Canine Defence League Rehoming Centre, at Sadberge, near Darlington, holds its annual fun day tomorrow.

Events include dog shows, demonstrations, treasure hunts, a bouncy castle, face-painting, and a dog and dad look-alike competition for Father's Day.

The open day is a chance for owners to enter their dogs in The Pal Scruffts Best Family Cross Breed Competition, with the winners of four categories going forward to represent Darlington in the final at Earls Court, London, on November 17. For details call (01325) 333114.

RESIDENTS' PANEL: The Darlington Residents' Panel has received a £3,068 National Lottery Awards for All grant. The organisation works with residents' associations and the local authority in Darlington to look at housing policies. The grant will enable it to buy equipment for group activities and workshops.

CABINET MEETS: The next meeting of Sedgefield Borough Council's cabinet will be on Thursday, at 10am, in the council offices, Spennymoor.

WHIST DRIVE: There will be a whist drive held in Croft Village Hall on Monday, starting at 7pm. Admission is £1 and refreshments will be available.

JUBILEE FETE: Darlington Victim Support is holding a summer fete next Saturday, in St Cuthbert's Church Hall, in the town centre, from 10am to noon.

CHURCH FAIR: Middleton-in-Teesdale Village Hall is hosting a summer fair organised by St Mary's Church today, at 2pm.

GARDENS OPEN: The Gardens at Thorpe, near Whorlton, will be open tomorrow, from 2pm to 5pm, in aid of Save the Children. There will be a woodcarving demonstration. Entry is £2 for adults.

BOWLING GRANT: The South Park Veterans' Bowling Club, in Darlington, has been awarded a grant of £1,044 by the National Lottery Awards for All panel to buy equipment which can be used by younger players and older or disabled players.

SUMMER MUSIC: A summer musical evening, with champagne and strawberries, is being held at St James the Great Church, Albert Hill, Darlington, on Friday June 28, after the 7pm Mass.

SONGS OF PRAISE: Aycliffe Village green will be the venue for a songs of praise event on July 7. Great Aycliffe Town Council granted permission for the event.

GOVERNORS' REPORT: The annual report by the school governors of Aycliffe Village Primary School will be presented to parents on Wednesday, at 7.30pm. Before the meeting there will be a short presentation on the school's health policy.
