ORGANISERS of a village gala day are celebrating after hundreds of local people turned out to enjoy the event at the weekend.
Hurworth Gala Day saw local families enjoy musical entertainment and activities organised by Hurworth Community Centre.
The highlight of the day was the annual gala parade through the village, which was led by the 11-year-old Princess of Hurworth, Charlotte Clewlow.
The only mishap of the day happened when a young boy twisted his ankle after falling from a hay bale.
St John Ambulance workers were on hand to administer first aid and take the boy to hospital for treatment.
Ian Fletcher, of Hurworth Community Association, said: "It has been a marvellous success. We are over the moon, and we would like to thank everyone who was involved.
"It was lovely that the chairman of Darlington Football Club, George Reynolds, and his wife, attended the event to open it, and we thank them as well.
"The only sour point was the young lad twisting his ankle, but I think he is fine now and St John Ambulance were on hand.
"All in all, it has been a wonderful day and a tremendous family occasion."
