Lancashire trainer Robert Wylie has yet to saddle a winner on the Flat but he should be familiar to National Hunt racegoers in Scotland after Romil Star took him into the winners enclosure at Perth last month.
And the same horse can open his account on the level by taking the George Wimpy Edinburgh Gold Cup Showcase Handicap at Musselburgh this afternoon.
This dual heavy ground winner on the Flat in Germany had a soft palate operation earlier in the year and it proved an instant success as he made all at Perth on his handicap debut.
The five-year-old showed he had it in him to win off this sort of mark on his All-Weather debut last time when a solid second to the much more experienced sand campaigner Inver Gold.
A reproduction of that effort back on turf will see him go well and his trainer told me last week that he has come out of that race well and that he is hopeful of a big run today.
On the other hand Jim Goldie is no stranger to success on the Flat and, although his Granite City has plenty on his plate at the weights at first glance in the seven furlong claimer, he could go well at decent odds.
Firstly, unlike several of his main market rivals, he's very much at home at this course and on soft ground and the likely strong pace (several confirmed front-runners in the race) will very much play to his strengths. Throw in the fact he's ridden by Tony Culhane, one of the best jockeys around and he's worth a wager at around 14-1.
Loughlorien is a consistent sort who should give a good account in the George Wimpy Murrayfield Handicap over five furlongs.
Kevin Ryan's stable have been in good form of late and this one will have no problems with the step back to this trip, or the easier ground.
Mary Reveley's horses are back in form and her Lady Lap Dancer, who wasn't disgraced at Newcastle on her reappearance, can be on the mark in the closing apprentice handicap over a mile and six furlongs.
At Windsor John Quinn's Taras Emperor has conditions to suit and a favourable low draw in the Tote Exacta Handicap over six furlongs.
This trip on easy ground look ideal and she's been running well enough of late to suggest she'll give another very good account here.
At Brighton Nigel Tinkler's Mighty Atem can make the long trip from Yorkshire pay dividends by taking the Rodney Moss Maiden Auction Stakes over the extended five furlongs.
The gelding has shown ability on both outings to date and, with further improvement on the cards, can get off the mark in this modest contest.
