GOVERNMENT inspectors are to carry out comprehensive review of services provided by North Yorkshire County Council.
Through the Audit Commission, the Government plans to carry out a Comprehensive Performance Assessment of all local authorities by the end of next year.
North Yorkshire is one of the first councils to come under the microscope and an inspection team is due to start work this week.
Inspectors will judge the council's capacity for improving performance and the way in which it delivers services.
Council leader John Weighell said: "We welcome the external challenge provided by the Audit Commission. We are dedicated to delivering the kind of services which we know the people of North Yorkshire want and deserve, at a cost which is affordable.
