SUMMER playscheme organisers at Hartlepool are promising four weeks of fun for children aged five to 11.
There will be five venues - Bridge Youth Centre, Greatham Community Centre, Friarage Youth Centre, Rossmere Youth Centre and West View Project - and the schemes run from Monday, July 29, until Friday, August 23. For the first time, parents must register their children by post. Packs can be obtained from the Civic Centre, libraries, neighbourhood offices, Hartlepool Art Gallery and Information Centre, community centres, youth centres and Greatham Post Office. Completed applications must be returned before June 29. For details, call (01429) 523471.
Big grant: The Clarences Community Farm, at Port Clarence, has been given £500 by Stockton Borough Council to enable artist Keith Alexander to work with children to make banners for display at the farm. On Friday, he was at High Clarence Primary School to help children with their research and design.
Museum display: Pupils at Preston-on-Tees Primary School produced artwork to brighten up nearby Preston Hall Museum. Youngsters aged five to 11 did their bit by drawing a shoe and colouring it in with fabric transfer crayons. Their drawings were then ironed on to a hanging on show in the museum.
Harry winner: The winner of a Harry Potter look-a-like competition at the Asda store in Thornaby was James Ryan, from the town. James won a bag of Harry Potter goodies.
Jubilee Queen: Katie Hamilton, aged five, was crowned jubilee queen at a fun day organised by the Asda store in Thornaby.
Public meeting: The Save Our Theatre Group holds a public meeting in the Forum Theatre, Billingham, at 7pm tonight, to protest at plans by Stockton Borough Council to demolish the theatre. Local residents are being urged to turn up to air their views.
Silver date: The Redcar Youth and Community Centre Playgroup celebrated its 25th anniversary last week. As part of the celebrations, youngsters wore silver party hats which they had made with the help of their parents.
