A COUNCIL is launching an appeal for foster carers to come forward.
Gateshead Borough Council is holding an awareness event on Thursday to highlight the issue.
Last month, the authority was caring for more than 200 children, and says that while some youngsters are eventually able to return home, others need permanent new families, either through long-term fostering or adoption.
Those eligible include single people, couples, different ethnic backgrounds and the unemployed.
The information event at Gateshead Civic Centre, starting at 7pm, will allow people to meet experienced foster carers. For details, call 0191 433-8333
