PLANS for a maritime festival to be held in the region next month are starting to take shape.
Set against the background of Hartlepool's marina, the festival tells the story of Voyages of Discovery.
The activities will begin at 11.30am on Saturday, July 6, with a procession of stilt walkers and drummers.
Starting from the quayside piazza on Maritime Avenue the parade will head to the Historic Quay, where the official opening will take place.
The music programme starts at noon, and a varied programme of entertainment will continue throughout the day in and around the Historic Quay, reaching a climax at 8pm with a fireworks display.
The activities begin again at noon on Sunday, with the last event at 6pm.
