Manager Chris Turner has given his players an extra four days rest.

The Pool squad were originally due to return to pre-season training on Thursday, but Turner has asked them to come back next Monday instead.

There is no major reason behind the decision but the Victoria Park chief insists that he does not need the time to go shopping in the transfer market.

Pool, who narrowly missed out on a Third Division play-off campaign on spot-kicks at Cheltenham in April, have tied down out-of-contract players Gordon Watson, Paul Arnison and Chris Westwood.

And Turner is convinced that he is in no rush to add to a squad which he believes is capable of achieving an automatic promotion place next season.

"I just feel that after three years and over the last six months especially we have a settled team and squad who have performed exceptionally well," said Turner.

But he is convinced that Pool chairman Ken Hodcroft will back him if he did decide to add to his already impressive group of players.

"If during pre-season we feel we do need a bit of improvement or we aren't happy with one or two things, then we will look at the opportunity to bring players in," he said.

"If we analyse the pre-season and say to IOR that we need a player then if it was to benefit the club they would be behind me. We are so close to a squad that could go in to the Second Division and do well."
