A CENTRE for abandoned and unloved dogs opened its doors to the public at the weekend.
To mark Father's Day, the National Canine Defence League's (NCDL) refuge in Sadberge, near Darlington, held a family fun day.
The highlight of the day was the "dog and dad look-a-like competition", and there was a bouncy castle, treasure hunts and face painting.
The centre also ran its own dog shows, with prizes for the best trick and best family cross breed, and owners also took part in a "strip and stay" race, in which owners had to take their clothes off while guiding their dogs around a course.
Former NCDL dogs and their handlers showed off their agility skills in the fly-ball demonstration.
NCDL manager Catherine Gillie said: "The day gave visitors a chance to see 140 dogs we have that need a home. These include dogs like Badger, a lovely 12-year-old greyhound who is looking for a quiet home to spend the rest of his days, and Jacob, a sprightly two-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier."
Anyone interested in re-homing or adopting a rescue dog, can call the centre on (01325) 333114
