THE reception class of a Teesside school welcomed a special guest yesterday.
Dave Benson Phillips, a children's TV presenter, was at The Village Primary School, Thornaby, to present the children with the first prize in a national competition.
Fairy teamed up with the Disney and Pixar movie, Monsters Inc, and invited children to take inspiration from the film and make monsters out of Fairy Liquid bottles.
The children in class one designed their own monster and called it The Scary Fairy Monster.
The monster was bright orange with smart blue spots on its body. He had black eyes, glittery fingers and wondrous wild hair.
Class teacher Diane Cooke said: "The children had great fun making the monsters. They have great imaginations and were able to let their imagination run wild."
The school received the overall prize of £3,000 which will be spent on classroom equipment.
Dave Benson Phillips said: "This is a great competition for the children as it allows them to be very creative and practical at the same time.
"The school's entry was outstanding and it was clear they had put in a lot of effort".
