GRANTS totalling more than £82,000 have been handed out to leisure groups over the past 12 months.

Twenty five sports organisations, play areas and village halls have benefited from the Hambleton District Council grants schemes.

Another six groups unable to complete their projects have had their cash rolled forward into this financial year.

Voluntary sports organisations to take a share of £23,349 included Hutton Rudby Fishing Club, Tollerton Tennis and Badminton Club, Thirsk Cricket Club, Coxwold Bowling Club and Great Ayton Cricket and Football Club.

Thirsk and Sowerby Town Hall renovations were awarded £7,203 from the village halls pot. Other cash went to Tholthorpe, Kirby Wiske, Stillington, Huby, Nether Silton, Sessay, Hackforth, Danby Wiske, Borrowby and Topcliffe and Asenby.

Six children's play areas in Swainby, Crayke, Carlton Miniott, Northallerton, Topcliffe and Easingwold took a slice of almost £17,000.

The £20,000 budget for skateboarding was rolled forward into this financial year.
