A YOUNG man had £900 worth of cannabis in his home when it was raided by police, a court heard yesterday.
Stephen Butterfield, 29, of Roseberry Road, Redcar, has gone on trial at Teesside Crown Court accused of possession of cannabis with intent to supply. He denies the charge.
Prosecutor Sarah Mallet said police raided Mr Butterfield's home on August 17 last year and found 184.26gms of cannabis.
While officers were there, Mr Butterfield's mobile phone was answered by a policeman. The call was from Andrew John Sugden, a friend of Butterfield, who arranged to come round.
Ms Mallet said Mr Sugden made a statement to officers which said he had gone round to buy £5 of cannabis , having done so once a week for four years.
However, Mr Sugden told the court he felt under "immense pressure" from the police to make the statement and agreed with what they said.
In police interview, Mr Butterfield said he was a drug user and had bought three ounces of cannabis a few days before the raid.
Mr Butterfield said he suffered from arthritis and could not work but reiterated he did not "push" drugs.
The case continues.
