HORSEBOX owners are being warned that tachographs, where fitted, will now be checked at the annual MOT.
This will happen even if the vehicle is privately owned, but does not apply to vehicles where there is a separate speedometer.
Prior to the MOT, the tachograph will have to be checked to ensure it was initially calibrated and tested when the horsebox was new.
If it has been disconnected for some reason, such as a new clutch being fitted, it will have to be recalibrated and sealed.
If the vehicle is used for hire and reward, the check will ensure that it complies with the current regulations.
Private horsebox owners are exempt, but must complete and sign a form claiming exemption from the local Vehicle Inspectorate office or by downloading from the website of the Organisation of Horsebox and Trailer owners www.ohto.co.uk
