ATHLETES with learning disabilities will be taking part in a sports event next week.
More than 150 people from County Durham will be competing in the outdoor sports day being held at the Riverside Sports Complex, in Chester-le-Street.
Competitions will include the javelin, 100 metre and 200 metre sprints, relay races and tug-of-war.
Last year, 17 athletes from County Durham Care centres competed in the Special Olympics National Games in Cardiff.
Among the sportsmen and women taking part in the event next Wednesday will be five who have been selected to represent Britain in the Special Olympics World Games, next year.
County Durham Care's John Burnip, who helped to organise the sports day, said: "This is a terrific event which everyone enjoys.
"Any spectators who would like to come along and watch the action will be more than welcome."
