AN MP claims a North-East teacher will find it difficult to clear his name despite accusations against him of child cruelty being thrown out by the courts.
Ray Johnston had to wait three-and-a-half years before child cruelty charges against him came to court.
Despite that, his complaints against Northumbria Police, in which he alleged malicious prosecution, have not been officially recognised.
Claire Curtis-Thomas, MP for Crosby, in Liverpool and chairman of the Parliamentary All-Party Group on Child Abuse Investigations, said the police response to his complaints was "totally inadequate".
"There is something terribly wrong when the people you are complaining about can decide whether or not to pursue a case against themselves," she said.
The MP yesterday gave evidence to the Commons Home Affairs Committee, which is investigating police inquiries into allegations of abuse in childrens' homes.
The inquiry heard criticism of ''trawling'' methods to identify victims and abusers
