AN east Durham arts centre is planning a special tea party beginning next week.
The Discovery Centre at Seaton Holme, in Easington Village, is to stage a display of Ringtons Tea Pottery, beginning next Wednesday.
Samuel Smith founded the famous company in 1907 in a lock up shop in Third Avenue, Newcastle.
In no time at all, the now distinctive black, green and gold livery became a familiar sight in thousands of store cupboards.
The company expanded over the years into the production of cups, saucers, tea services and commemorative plates.
Ringtons now has a thriving mail order service, which supplies tea and its associated chinaware to all parts of the Britain, and as far afield as Australia, Canada, Chile and South Africa.
Dozens of items from the company will be on display during the exhibition, which ends on July 31.
The centre is open between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Friday, and from 11am to 4pm at weekends. Admission is free.
