A busy period for club members leading up to the Captains weekend competitions with the course in top condition.
June Medal
A field of 104 golfers played in this month's medal, and with a score of 74 Julian Beer returned the best gross on the day with a standard scratch of 71 for the competition. Leading scores as follows :- Division 1: 69 Mike Kirk (12); 70 Kevin Rayner (8); and Martin Fuller (5) card countback required. Division 2: 64 Peter Manning (20); 70 Richard Hewison (15); and Ian Johnston (13) card countback required. Division 3: 63 Michael Greenwood (22); 73 Terry Gregory (22).
Mike Kirk, Peter Manning and Michael Greenwood by winning their respective Divisions qualify for the Medal Final in September. Martin Fuller, Mike Kirk. Richard Hewison and Michael Greenwood qualify to represent the club in the Chrysler Golf Challenge Area Finals and we wish them good luck.
Jubilee Shotgun Scramble
A loyal Red, White and Blue scramble was played to celebrate this occasion .
Following three top placings: 63.9 Liz Stubbs, Andrew Curry, Neville Taylor (5.1 hcp) and Pauline Morris, Ian Smith, Stan Willis (5.1 hcp) 64.3 Janice Walker, Chris Stubbs John Forrester (4.7 hcp).
Red Cross Cup No. 7
Good conditions and longer evenings lead to good scoring as was witnessed this week.
Leading scores as follows: 44 points David Blades (11); 42 points Mark Smith (10); 41 points Ray Marshall (15); 40 points Tim Morris (18).
Captains Outing
Alan Court chose Wynyard Hall for his outing and members enjoyed the trip to Durham . It was played as a nine hole Better Ball Stableford in the morning followed by 18 hole Better Ball Medal in the afternoon.
Nine Hole Stableford: 25 points Howard Dawson and Partner; 23 points David Blades and Brian Lawrence; also Kevin Clinton and Craig Harrison card countback required.
18 Hole Medal : 62 George, Hewison and John Webster; 63 Jim Shaw and Dennis Thompson; 64 Kevin Clinton and Craig Harrison. The best gross was returned by Ian Smith and Roger Parry.
Seniors Medal
A smaller field than usual for this white tee medal with the following leading scores: 71 Stan Everington (25) and Maurice Barlow (23) card countback required; 73 Billy Anderson (23). The best gross 85 was returned by Brian Knapton.

It was a highly successful weekend with the weather holding out except for the final two hours on the Sunday. Club Captain, Clive Auld, would like to thank all the people who donated prizes that helped to make the day special.
The Saturday night entertainment by Stephen Bayliss, a competitor on the TV programme A Star for a Night, must be rated as one of the best shows the Club has seen.
There were 17 prizes. in the Men's Competition (stableford), the first three being: R and B Page 50 points; R Robinson and J Wadsworth 50 points and A Heslop and P Beresford 49 points.
In the Ladies Section there were seven prizes the first three being, J Lee and S Spence 42 points, J Milne and P Bacon 42 points and J Wheatley and S Holmes 41points.
Andrew Graham, 44 points, won the Junior Section, with David Jackson 42 points and Marc Bell 39 points second and third.
There were prizes on individual holes for all sections.
