HILL farmer Ron Foster has been made an honorary life president of the North Yorkshire Moors Association.
Barry Nicholson, a past chairman of the association, described Mr Foster's legendary status as a farmer at Rosedale.
Mr Foster who holds the MBE, had given lifelong support to farming on the moors and conservation of the landscape and wildlife of the area, serving on the National Park Committee, as well as taking an active role in the affairs of the NFU, said Mr Nicholson.
Geoff Belbin, secretary, said the appointment helped the association to maintain close links with the hill farming interests of the Moors.
