A BURGLAR who posed as a police officer left his elderly victim badly shaken when he forced his way into his home.
The pensioner answered his door in Missenden Grove, in the Priestfields area of Middlesbrough, to a man described as 6ft and of medium build with dark hair. He was wearing a blue top and blue trousers.
The intruder identified himself as a police officer, but when challenged he pushed his way into the house. He then threatened the householder and demanded money before escaping.
The pensioner suffered minor injuries, but did not require hospital treatment.
Police last night appealed for witnesses to the attack, which happened at about 9pm on Tuesday, to come forward.
They also issued a renewed warning to householders, particularly the elderly, to demand identification from any officials who come to their door, and refuse entry to anyone unable to produce any.
Witnesses are asked to call police on (01642) 303338 or (01642) 303337.
