A MAN who had £900-worth of cannabis, £300-worth of cocaine, and other drugs in his home when it was raided by police, was jailed for three years yesterday.
Stephen Butterfield, 28, of Roseberry Road, Redcar, denied possession of cannabis with intent to supply, at Teesside Crown Court, but was found guilty by a jury.
He previously pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine worth £300, Ecstasy tablets worth £90 and £5 worth of amphetamine found in the same police raid.
Those drugs, it was said, were for his own use.
Sarah Mallet, prosecuting, told the jury that police found 184.26gms of cannabis, as well as the other drugs, in the raid on August 17, last year.
Butterfield denied being a drug dealer, but admitted being a user, saying he used cannabis to combat arthritis.
Rebecca Young, defending, said he rarely used the harder drugs, but he had such a large quantity because he had recently received £1,750 which he was owed due to a housing matter.
She said he was at a low ebb and used the money to buy more drugs than usual.
Judge Peter Fox QC said it was of serious concern that Butterfield had such large quantities of drugs in his home.
