South Korea have became the first Asian side ever to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup after they beat Spain 5-3 on penalties in Gwanju.
Gus Hiddink's side face Germany next having added the Spaniards to their impressive list of World Cup scalps, which had already included victories over Italy, Portugal and Poland.
After a goalless 90 minutes the game went into extra-time and after neither side could break the deadlock there it was down to penalties.
Inevitably the shootout produced its hero and villain. Joaquin proved to be the villain when his penalty was saved with South Korea 4-3 up and Hong Myung-Bo became the hero when he sent Iker Casillas the wrong way to make it 5-3 and book South Korea's place in the last four.
Turkey face Brazil in the other semi-final after they beat Senegal 1-0 thanks to a golden goal winner from substitute Ilhan Mansiz.
Mansiz, a second half substitute for Hakan Sukur, turned in Umit Davala's cross in golden goal extra-time to take Turkey into their first World Cup semi-final.
Both sides looked nervous by the prospect of a place in the last four and it showed during a disappointing 90 minutes with Sukur missing a whole host of chances for Turkey.
Just three minutes into golden goal extra-time however, it was all over thanks to Mansiz, who staked his claim for a starting place against Brazil, half-volleying past Tony Sylva.
