Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident involving an elderly woman and a bus, in Westmoreland Street, Darlington.

The woman was injured in the accident, which occurred at 12.40pm on Thursday, but not critically. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on (01325) 467681.

The accident came on the same day that Jean Oliver, 73, died after being in collision with a Rover car in the town's Grange Road. Witnesses to that accident are asked to contact 0191-386 4929.

NEW WORKER: Chilton's new youth development worker, Julia Rowcroft, has started visiting the area's Community College Youth Club on Tuesday evenings, to help youngsters with education projects.

TRAFFIC DELAYS: Work is continuing on the Yarm Road, Ridsdale Street, Hundens Lane junction in Darlington. Northumbrian Water is carrying out sewer repairs in the area.

FESTIVAL WEEKEND: St Peter's Church, Croft, near Darlington, is holding a festival next weekend. There will be a garden fete at Monkend Hall, Croft, on Saturday, at 2pm. The church will be open from 1pm on both days. The festival ends with a songs of praise service at 6pm on Sunday.

MEMBERS WANTED: The Darlington Afternoon Trefoil Guild is looking for new members. The Trefoil Guild is a non-uniformed section of the Guide Association and is aimed at former Guides who want to retain their links with Guiding and work in the wider community. The guild will have a stall in the Market Square during Darlington Carnival on Saturday.

COMMUNITY EVENT: People in Darlington are being invited to take part in a Community Planning Public Involvement Day on Friday, at the Dolphin Centre, between 11am and 4pm. MP Alan Milburn will be at the event and residents will be encouraged to talk to representatives from Darlington Borough Council, the NHS and voluntary groups about any aspect in the future of the town and what they would like to see changed.
