AN information day designed to help individuals and families with eating disorders will be held at the Community Centre, Bullion Hall, Bullion Lane, Chester-le-Street, on Friday, from 1pm to 3pm.
The event has been organised by Durham and Chester-le-Street Carers Support Group in association with the Northern Eating Distress Service. A confidential helpline has been established by the Northern Initiative for Women and Eating. Those who need help can call 0191-221 0233.
STORE DISPLAY: The Gentleshaw Bird of Prey Hospital and Wildlife Centre will put on a display, featuring birds of prey and information about the centre, at the Pets at Home superstore, Hylton Riverside Retail Park, Sunderland, on Saturday and Sunday.
CRAFTS FAIR: A crafts fair featuring locally-made products will be held in Durham Town Hall, Market Place, on Saturday, between 10am and 4.30pm. Admission is free. For details call the Durham Markets Company on 0191-384 6153.
COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning will be held to raise money for the Shepherd Society, which supports needy families in Bethlehem, on Saturday, July 6, between 9.30am and 12.30pm, in St Nicholas' Church Hall, Market Place, Durham. There will be white elephant and cake stalls.
NEW VENUE: Kings Church will meet in Newton Hall Community Centre, Carr House Drive, on Sunday, at 10.30am. The church normally meets at Collingwood College, but is having to move during the university summer holidays.
TEA TIME: A display of pottery made in the colours of Yorkshire firm Ringtons Tea will be on display in the Discovery Centre, Seaton Holme, Hall Walks, Easington Village, from Wednesday, to Wednesday, July 31. Admission is free.
DONOR SESSIONS: Blood donor sessions will be held on Monday, July 1, at the New Durham and District Workingmen's Club, Mill Lane, Durham, between 3pm and 7pm, and in the Sun Schoolroom, Trinity Methodist Church, Shibdon Road, Blaydon, from 2.30pm to 7pm.
TURBINE PLAN: The Eco Energy Group is seeking planning permission from Durham City Council to put up two electricity-generating wind turbines on land near Old Quarrington and Heugh Hall Farm, Bowburn.
TALENT CONTEST: The Galleries Shopping Centre, Washington, is appealing for budding stars to enter a junior talent competition. It is being held in conjunction with Sun FM, and is open to children aged 12 and under. The competition will take place in the shopping centre's Wessington Square, from noon to 2pm, on Sunday, July 28. To enter, ring Antonia Clifford on 0191-493 2493.
FINE DAY: Children's author Anne Fine is guest of honour at a red letter day at a north-west Durham school next month. The County Durham writer, who is the Children's Laureat, will give readings to pupils at Moorside Community College, near Consett, before performing the official opening of its new library, on Wednesday, July 10.
CHURCH FAIR: St Luke's Church, Ushaw Moor, is holding a summer fair and barbecue on Saturday, starting at noon. There will be various stalls, including cakes, tea and coffee, a tombola and raffle.
FIREPLACE ART: A small selection of watercolour paintings by Irene Haddick will be displayed above the fireplace at Seaton Holme, Hall Walks, Easington Village, from Wednesday, to Wednesday, July 31.
