GARDENING enthusiasts are being invited to take part in a seaside town's annual horticultural competition.
Residents in the Seaham area are being encouraged to take part in the free contest.
The Seaham in Bloom competition is seen not only as a means of rewarding keen gardeners, but also as an ideal way of encouraging more people to become more interested in tending their gardens.
Categories in the event include a best overall garden (front and rear), a best front garden (for properties without a rear garden), best newcomer, most colourful hanging basket and best window box or container.
Winners from previous years will this time compete in a new premier section category.
Organisers, Seaham Town Council hope this change will serve to attract a greater number of new entrants and help make the competition even more successful.
Judging is planned to take place on August 2. To take part in the event, contact Michelle Brown at the Parks Department, Cemetery Lodge, Princess Road, Seaham, County Durham, SR7 7TD or telephone 0191-5812943 for details.
The closing date for entries is July 12.
