A family fun day is being staged at Brandon Sports Club, in Brandon Lane, Brandon, near Durham, on Saturday, from 1pm onwards. Organised by the Friends of Browney School, it features a fun football match between the pupils and parents, plus a bouncy castle, karaoke and much more. Proceeds go to the Butterwick Children's Hospice appeal.
OXFAM CASH: Durham University Charities Kommittee (DUCK) raised more than £1,056 for Oxfam with a street collection in the centre of Durham. The committee has thanked contributors.
STORY TIME: A story time session for pre-school youngsters will be led by Carol Attewell and Jacqui Rodgerson today at 11am in Durham Clayport Library, Millennium Place, Claypath. Admission is free.
LUNCHTIME CONCERT: The Fernice Trio - piano, violin and cello- will perform classical music in a lunchtime concert at the DLI Museum, Aykley Heads, Durham, today at 1pm. Admission costs £3.50, concessions £2.25 and season ticket holders £1.
PHOTO MEETING: John Ceiriog-Hughes will give a talk entitled Worm's Eye View when Durham Photographic Society meets tomorrow at Shakespeare Hall, North Road, Durham, at 7.30pm. Admission is free.
ARCHIVE EVENT: Local and family history enthusiasts can learn how to use documents in the county archive at County Hall, Aykley Heads, Durham, tomorrow. The event, led by archivist David Butler, starts at 6pm. It costs £2 for adults, and £1 for concessions.
HEALTH MEETING: North Durham Community Health Council meets on Friday, at 10am, in the boardroom at Appleton House, Lanchester Road, Durham. Members of the public can attend and raise issues with the chairman's prior approval.
YORKSHIRE TRIP: Members of Chester-le-Street Ramblers will be going on a coach trip to Ingleton, North Yorkshire, on Sunday. Some seats are still available. They cost £6 each and are available by calling Brian Stout on 0191-386 4089.
MILK MONITORS: Cool Milk at School, which supplies subsidised milk to County Durham schools, is asking headteachers to nominate pupils for its milk monitor awards.
NEW COURSE: East Durham and Houghall Community College is launching a foundation degree in information technology for business in September. It will cover a wide range of topics, including systems design and websites.
TREE FELLING: Durham City Council is being asked to grant approval for the felling of three trees at Kirby's Drive, Chestnut Walk, Bowburn, an area covered by the Bowburn Grange tree preservation order.
LIVE music: Live entertainment will be held at the Stag Inn at Old South Moor, near Stanley every Saturday night for the forseeable future. Singers will perform favourites.
