MORE than 150 adults with learning disabilities gathered in Chester-le-Street for an annual sports event yesterday.
Competitors converged on the Riverside Sports Complex to take part in events including javelin throwing, 100m and 200m sprints, relay and tug-of-war.
The event, which is organised by County Durham Care's sports and leisure committee, has a habit of bringing on promising athletes. Last year, 17 athletes from the organisation's centres went on to compete in the Special Olympics National Games in Cardiff.
Five of them have since been selected to represent Britain in the Special Olympics World Games next year.
John Burnip, from County Durham Care, said yesterday's event was as successful as those of previous years.
"It was another great success," he said.
"We had people from all over the county, and everyone enjoyed themselves.
"The winner of the final trophy was Auckland Gate Centre, in Bishop Auckland.
