A PUBLIC meeting has been called to discuss plans to build a Community Learning Centre (CLC) on the site of a Hartlepool primary school.
The town's £54m New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme is keen to make progress on the Lynnfield School scheme and feels it is vital to involve local people.
Plans for the CLC are still being finalised, but it could house a range of facilities, including a nursery, creche, out-of-school childcare facilities and after-school study support, for people living in the north and central parts of the NDC area.
An NDC spokeswoman said: "This is similar to a scheme that has already been approved for Stranton Primary School in the southern part of the NDC area.
"However, that scheme has been successful in obtaining National Lottery money through Sport England, in addition to NDC funding, which means it will be possible to provide a multi-use games area with new changing facilities.
"Two classrooms will also be refurbished to create a music and arts area.
"Some concern has been voiced that the Lynnfield scheme will not include such sports and arts facilities.
"At a previous NDC Community Forum meeting there was a general call to revisit the Lynnfield proposals to see how sports and arts facilities could be provided.
"That is why we are holding the public meeting and we hope as many people as possible will attend to contribute ideas."
The meeting will be held next Thursday, at 5pm in Lynnfield Primary School hall.
People living in the north and central parts of the NDC area are invited to attend.
Anyone who is unable to attend can contact the NDC team on (01429) 894046.
