A NURSERY is to be added to Reeth Primary School as part of proposals by North Yorkshire County Council.
The plan would bring 13 half-day places after Easter next year at what would be known as the Two Dales Nursery, for three and four-year-olds living in Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. It would be behind the school and would cater for children in the areas served by Reeth, Gunnerside and Arkengarth-dale primary schools.
CRECHE FIGHT: Staff at Dweezils crche at Asda, in York's Monk's Cross, are fighting plans to close down the facility. The store wants to replace the crche with an opticians and photo centre.
STONE TROUGH: A heavy sandstone trough was stolen from a cottage garden in Hawnby, near Helmsley. At least two people would have been needed to lift it and a white Ford Escort estate was seen in the area at the time.
MOUNTAIN PAIR: Pals Steve Rodgers and John Griffin, from York, are planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise £3,000 for an ME charity. John's daughter, Lauren, suffers from the debilitating disease and the pair plan to fly to Nairobi next week.
JOUSTING FUN: The gallant Knights of Royal England troupe will be in action at Helmsley Castle and Duncombe Park on Saturday and Sunday, as part of a programme of medieval entertainment.
UNION SUCCESS: The North Yorkshire Police branch of Unison has scooped several honours at the union's annual awards ceremony. They included the Best Effort award as the most improved branch in the country.
RE-ELECTED: The Yorkshire branch of the Country Land and Business Association has re-elected James Goodhart, of Bishop Wilton, near York, as its president. Mr Goodhart, a member of the association's council, is a past chairman of the branch.
COFFEE time: Richmond Town Hall hosts a coffee morning in aid of St Mary's Church organ restoration appeal next month. Stalls will also be selling cakes, plants and bric-a-brac on Thursday, July 11.
