GROUPS throughout the region will be able to surf the web after receiving free computers from BT.
The company has awarded 41 groups with a computer as part of its Community Connections project.
Community initiatives throughout the North-East and North Yorkshire will be given computers after bidding to receive the equipment.
Among the organisations to benefit is the Middlesbrough Career Club, which provides courses for disadvantaged teenagers.
Branksome Community Association, in Darlington, and the Coundon and Leeholme Community Project in Bishop Auckland, County Durham will make their computers available to residents. Meanwhile, the Durham and Chester-le-Street carers support group hopes members will be able to access more support from other people in similar situations.
