A YOUNG offenders' institution has joined forces with the Royal Air Forces Association to hold an aviation day.
Deerbolt Young Offenders' Institution, near Barnard Castle, will hold the event in the institution's memorial garden next Wednesday.
The event will include a parade led by the Teesdale Pipes and Drums alongside serving RAF personnel from RAF Leeming.
The day will begin at 11am with a service in the memorial garden, on Deerbolt Bank. Organisers are hoping plans for an RAF flypast will go ahead. The memorial service will be dedicated to Pilot Officer A L Logan, of the Royal Canadian Air Force, who lost his life when his Spitfire crashed in Teesdale in 1942.
The Canadian pilot was buried in nearby Startforth churchyard.
