PLANS to create a hot-food takeaway in Saltburn have been rejected because it would affect neighbouring homes.
Planning officers had already recommended refusal of the application to turn a shop, in Milton Street, into a takeaway with caf.
Members of Redcar and Cleveland's planning committee backed their views after hearing that people living nearby had lodged strong objections, claiming the shop would create litter, noise, smells and parking problems.
Residents felt that Saltburn was already well provided with food takeaways.
Planning officer Doreen Mealing said the shop had two flats above and was in a conservation area. "We feel the proposed use would be detrimental to local amenities enjoyed by residents," she said.
