PLANS to develop the Esk Valley railway, which could mean an hourly service between Grosmont and Whitby, are being backed by the North York Moors National Park.
It is hoped the proposals of the new limited company created earlier this year will result in the line integrating with the Moorsbus service and encourage cycling and walking in the area, while protecting the moorland roads.
The improved railway line would create much-improved transport services to Whitby while helping to reduce traffic on the moors. It would also provide access to the national park for people without their own transport.
The authority has welcomed the pilot proposals and is to contribute £5,000 towards the development in the current financial year.
