A DECISION on plans to build homes on a scrapyard at Harmby, near Leyburn, will be decided by the Secretary of State.
The application by Merewood Homes was called in by the Government after Richmondshire District Council said it was minded to approve the scheme despite it being a departure from the development plan.
The planning committee had rejected an earlier proposal for 16 houses on the site, but accepted an amended plan with 15 homes, a play area and a buffer zone around protected trees.
Planning officials had recommended refusal of the scheme because the amendments were superficial and did not materially alter the proposals.
The environment committee, which meets on Tuesday is recommended to revert to its original rejection of the scheme because of its conflict with local, regional and national planning policy.
