The start of a fete at St Mary's Church, Newton Aycliffe, has been changed to avoid a clash with the World Cup final. The fete, on Sunday, will start at 3pm. It will include stalls, a tombola, dancing and a prize draw with a £200 first prize.
CASH BOOST: A sports day collection at Abbey School, Darlington, raised £171 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
FUNDRAISER: Sadberge Church fete is being held in the village hall tomorrow, at 2.30pm. It will be opened by Darlington Mayor Councillor Doris Jones.
CHARITY EVENT: The Two Blues pub, Woodhouse Close, Bishop Auckland, is holding a live music night on Sunday, from 8pm to 11pm, with proceeds going to the Butterwick Hospice.

SCHOOL TRAIL: Cleves Cross Primary School, Ferryhill, has got a new, outdoor adventure trail with the help of a £5,500 gift from Lafarge's Thrislington Quarry and Works landfill tax credit scheme.
NEW ROLE: The Reverend David Campbell, of Geneva Road Evangelical Baptist Church, Darlington, is taking up a new post in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in the US, after 15 years. A farewell service is being held on Sunday, at 3pm.
COLD COMFORT: Staff at the Asda store in Bishop Auckland spent a day in a bath as customers paid to cover them in custard, to raise money for the Butterwick Hospice. John Bowman, 21, and Matthew Gowland, 19, took it in shifts to sit in the bath.
SAFER HOMES: Anti-crime measures fitted in 220 properties on the Low Mown Meadows Estate, Crook, as part of a £1m facelift, have won Durham Constabulary's Secured by Design award, presented by Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Turnbull, to council chairwoman Margaret Pinkney.
