Roseberry Group North East Durham League

There were good performances from Robert Maddison and Philip Adsett when Coxhoe defeated Littletown by seven wickets in Division One.

Maddison bowled 15 overs, four of them maidens and claimed six wickets for 32 runs when Littletown were all out in 42 overs for 108 which included 48 by Chris Davies with one six and five boundaries.

Adsett then steered Coxhoe to victory in 26 overs when he hit no fewer than ten fours in 48.

East Rainton continue to lead the table and they had 73 runs in hand of second top Newton Aycliffe. Batting first East Rainton ended on 155 when Neil Matthews opened the innings and scored 56 and Ian Kitching added 34.

Davison had a good game for Newton Aycliffe claiming five wickets for 49 runs and Gledhill returned three for 44.

Responding Newton Aycliffe were all out for 82 as Roy Richardson picked up five wickets for 26 runs and Kitching completed a good game by returning four for 48.

Washington defeated Benwell Hill by eight wickets. Required to score 128 when they batted second, they reached their target mainly through a second wicket stand between Carr (48) and John Tither, who finished unbeaten on 46. Thompson was Carr's opening partner and he contributed 29 before being dismissed.

When Benwell Hill batted first they ended on 127 for nine and most of their runs came from Peirson with 31 and Dawson with an unbeaten 48. Tither had three for 33 and Plender three for 37 in the Washington bowling lineup.

Wearmouth had eight wickets to spare at Sunderland Hospitals who they restricted to 116 for eight which included 26 by Shaw when he opened the innings. Stonock (5-50) and Murphy with three for 56 were the bowlers who troubled Hospitals.

When Wearmouth went into bat they lost an early wicket but Dench (37) and Wayman (58no) laid the foundations for their side's victory.

Medomsley hosted Coundon and it was the visitors who came out on top by a one wicket margin. They faced the formidable total of 162 and were indebted to Peareth (27) and Eales (32) before Rodgerson added a valuable 27 and near the end Askew, who went in at number nine, carried his bat for 25. Richardson with four for 50 and Dixon (3-44) were the bowlers who almost won the game for Medomsley.

When Medomsley made first use of the wicket they finished on 161 for six and most of their runs came from Walls with 78 and Brough who finished with 38 not out. Tobin claimed three wickets for 54 runs and Askew had two for 60 in the Coundon attack.

Plawsworth, playing all their homes games on the Durham City ground, met Belford House in a near bottom of the table clash and it was Belford House who came out on top by an eight wickets margin.Philip Harwood top scored with 33 when Plawsworth were bowled out for 94. Havelock, with four for 22 and Spurs, whose three wickets were taken at a cost of 34 runs, troubled the Plawsworth batsmen before Belford House won comfortably as Crowe contributed 30 to his team's total of 95 for two.

Simonside lead Division Two and they won for the eighth time in ten outings defeating Bearpark by 116 runs. Simonside, assisted by no fewer than 53 extras, totalled 242 for eight as the runs flowed from Paul Thompson (39) and David Costello, who hit 11 boundaries in 79. Michael Bell had a good game with the ball for Bearpark and in 15 overs took five wickets for 74 runs.

In reply Bearpark were all out for 126, which included 46 by Smith with nine four. Paul Haynes picked up six wickets for 54 runs in 14.3 overs and Paul Thompson completed a good day by returning four for 68 from 14 overs.

Kelloe hosted Burnhope and won for the loss of three wickets. They faced a target of 101 and were indebted to Bowery for his opening contribution of 43.

When Burnhope batted first and were all out for 100, they found Hughes in top form with the ball for Kelloe and his seven wickets haul cost just 21 runs.

Tantobie and Plawsworth drew their match when the scores finished level at 125. When Plawsworth made first use of the wicket they struggled early on before Mel Chivers contributed 31 to a total of 125. Brown with three for 25 and Bellamy, whose three wickets were taken at a cost of 32 runs, were the top wicket takers for Tantobie but Petrie and Cook gave valuable assistance claiming two wickets apiece.

The Tantobie batsmen also found run making difficult and the bulk of their total of 125 came from Bell who went in at number four. He was unbeaten on 76 and following an exciting finale, Mel Chivers earned Plawsworth a share of the points when he returned the magnificent figures of seven for 29.

Kibblesworth were all out for 99 at East Rainton, who won by eight wickets when Maskell carried his bat for 35 and Wright was 26 not out.

Wright took four wickets for 27 runs and both Defty and Colledge claimed two wickets apiece when Kibblesworth batted first. The visitors' top performer with the bat was Wilson with 32.

Belmont reached 240 and then bowled out Whiteleas for 135. Ian Steel with 84 and Noble (33) were the top contributors for Belmont and in the Whiteleas innings Brian Cawood made 56 but when Oliver claimed five wickets for 12 runs and Robinson took three for 41, Whiteleas finished 105 runs behind the Belmont total.

North Bitchburn batsmen did even better when they hosted Washington and romped to 256 for seven mainly as a result of an innings of 105 by Dalton and other useful contributions from Allott (40) and Morgan (36). Bowes bowled well for Washington in taking five wickets for 71 runs. Responding Washington were dismissed for 115 as Lee turned in a super performance with the ball for the home side taking eight wickets for 59 runs. Rayner was Washington's leading run maker with 36.

Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Under-18s

Mark Cawthorne was in good form with bat and ball when Blaydon hosted Whickham and won by six wickets.

When the visitors batted first Cawthorne claimed three wickets for nine runs in five overs helping to restrict Whickham to 58 for five. Cawthorne then hit a couple of sixes and five boundaries in 35 as Blaydon won losing six wickets, three of them to Cree for seven runs in five overs.

Annfield Plain posted the formidable total of 126 for four but still lost at Consett. Ahmed with a half-century top performed with the bat for the Plain and Consett's match winner was Ian Stewart who contributed 70 to his side's total of 128 for two.

Greg Halliday was another youngster who hit form with bat and ball in Lanchester's nine wickets victory against Chopwell. When Chopwell made first use of the wicket they managed 61 for five which included 20 by Wilkinson. Halliday picked up three wickets for 19 runs then steered Lanchester to victory when he carried his bat for 32, partnering Stuart McPhail (20no).

Marcus Peart led Burnopfield to 89 for four when he contributed 23 and in the Lintz attack Richard Moody returned three for 17 from five overs.

Stephen Smith was 37 not out and David Dolan added 33 to the Lintz total of 94 for one.

Andy Britten (25) top performed when Greenside reached 71 for three at Ryton, who won by seven wickets. Philip Bates carried his bat for 21 and Jonathan McGuire scored 20 while for Greenside, Lewis Hardy had two for 16 from five overs.

Crookhall totalled 82 for three and then restricted Shotley Bridge to 29. The game between Sacriston and Swalwell was postponed.

Boddington's Coast League Under-13s

Silksworth enjoyed an eight wickets victory over Murton who they dismissed for 43 as Jordan Crake and Craig Gardner returned identical figures of three nine, the pair each bowling three overs.

In response Silksworth lost two wickets and their top performer with the bat was Scot Davison with 20.

Ryhope had six wickets in hand of Seaham Park, who reached 82 for six. Their leading scorer was Singh, who carried his bat for 13 and for Ryhope Willans took two wickets for 14 runs and Macbeth two for 15.

In response Ryhope last four wickets as Swansbury contributed 27. Darren Sutherland took two for 23 from four overs and Chris Varley had figures of two for 29, also from a four overs spell, for Seaham Park.

Fred Foster Under-13 Cup Final

Houghton lifted the trophy with a six wickets victory over Silksworth at Hylton.

When Silksworth made first use of the wicket they ended with an impressive 108 for seven which included 38 by Craig Nield and 32 from Scot Davison. O'Neill had a hat-trick in figures of three for 25 and Johnson took three for nine for Houghton. Marchant led Houghton's reply scoring exactly half his team's total when he contributed 55 to 110 for four. Shaun Hauxwell added 28 and for Silksworth Craig Gardner claimed two wickets for 19 runs. Houghton won from the second ball of the penultimate bowl.

Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-13s

AMcMahon top scored with an unbeaten 50 when Chester-le-Street visited Hetton Lyons. He recorded no fewer than five sixes and four boundaries and also in form with the bat for the Cestrians were Jonathan Shurben who recorded six fours in 33 and Darren Redfearn, whose 30 included a six and four fours.

Chester-le-Street made the formidable total of 213 for four before dismissing Hetton Lyons for 82 which included 22 by Gwyn. Jack Taylor top performed with the ball for the visitors taking three wickets for 21 runs in four overs. Andrew Summers and McMahon had identical figures of two for seven, Summers bowling four overs and McMahon two.

Bass North

Cleveland League

There was little between the three leading sides in division one after second top Hinderwell lost by seven wickets visiting Dormans.

Hinderwell were all out for 85 which included 27 by opening batsman Duell, but throughout the innings the Dormans attack was in command. Hussein claimed four wickets for eight runs, Dale had three for 25 and Ramzan three for 40.

In reply Dormans reached the winning target of 86 losing three wickets as man of the match Hussein carried his bat for 39.

Loftus continue to enjoy a narrow lead at the top of the table and they defeated The Merlin by 21 runs. Pearson batted throughout the Loftus innings finishing undefeated on 47 out of a total of 130 for eight which also included 24 by Barrett. Moss claimed seven wickets for 74 runs in The Merlin attack.

In reply The Merlin were all out for 109 and following a poor start to their innings they were indebted to Burden for his 36 and to Mee for his late score of 28. Smithies captured five wickets for 24 runs and Whitwell three for 42.

Staithes bowled out Norton in 29 overs for 68 but then had to fight before recording a five wickets victory. Mark Allen was in sparkling form for Staithes and in 14 overs, five of them maidens, he captured seven wickets for 30 runs. Allen then formed a partnership of 50 with Mark Elland (19no) to steer Staithes to victory in 22.4 overs. Allen hit a couple of sixes and in 26 and for Norton Jenkins had the creditable figures of three for 42 in 11.4 overs. Harker took the other two wickets at a cost of 19 runs.

Paragonians managed 66 when they visited Jack Hatfields. Hadfield was the principal wicket taker with five wickets for 29 runs and Mustafa also bowled well with three for 15.

Jack Hatfields lost four wickets reaching their target but were never in danger when Pearce opened the batting and was still their at the end undefeated on 29.

After making the healthy total of 176 and declaring for seven wickets, Normanby Parklands lost by seven wickets at Boosbeck. Richardson batted throughout the Boosbeck innings ending 54 not out and after forming a sound opening partnership with Booth, who made 24 before being run out, he found another partner in Lorrains whose 82 propelled Boosbeck to a match winning 179 for three. When Normanby Parklands made first use of the wicket their opening batsman Leadbetter contributed 50 and Ayub added 25 to the total which was boosted by 29 extras. Oakley and Richardson both took a couple of wickets in the Boosbeck attack.

Ormesby Hall ended with 130 for nine at Skelton Castle where McCabe, batting down the order, finished unbeaten with a valuable 44. Grant was in splendid form for Skelton Castle and his six wickets were taken at the meagre cost of 25 runs.

When they responded Skelton Castle were pegged to 75 for eight and the game finished in a draw. Gratton was Skelton Castle's saviour with an unbeaten 24 and for Ormesby Hall Newson took three for 15, McCabe two for 17 and Davis two for 19.

In Division Two Blacksmiths Arms won their first game of the season defeating Moorsholm by ten wickets. Required to score 119 they did so in 33 overs as Mark Sherwood hit six boundaries in 55 not out and David Barker carried his bat for 49 which included seven fours. In the Moorsholm innings, which lasted 38 overs, Alan Hucker ended unbeaten on 31 with five fours and Steve Frankland, batting at number ten, hit a viable 41 with one six and six fours. Keith Nixon was the most productive of the five-man Blacksmiths Arms attack and in 12.4 overs he took four wickets for 30 runs. Prosser and Hann claimed two wickets each.

Dormanstown had 20 runs to spare defeating Ormesby Hall. When they batted first there were useful contributions to the Dormanstown innings from Johnson (25), Lloyd (29) and Moon (23) as a total of 115 was achieved. Roberts, with five for 34 and Poole (3-25) took most of the wickets for Ormesby Hall who were all out for 95 which included 32 by Matthewman and 32 not out from Heaney.

The wickets were shared by the Dormanstown bowlers and none did better than Dowson with two for 16. Mitchell, Lloyd and Gibbon all took two wickets.

Skelton Castle were skittled out for just 38 at Brotton for whom Yeoman captured five wickets for 18 runs and Broughton three for 11. In reply Brotton secured the necessary runs for a loss of three wickets, two of them to McCabe, to 14 runs.

Cowpen Bewley overtook the Normanby Parklands total of 109 with four wickets in hand. Carr opened the innings scoring 20 and Manners added 25 before Horner top scored with 33. Fox returned four for 38 and Harrow two for 30 for Parklands who when they made first use of the wickets, were dismissed for 109.

Manners, with three for 32 and Longsdale, whose three wickets were taken at a cost of 30 runs, were the principal wicket takers with Carr and Asif each taking two wickets.

Despite making 175 for seven and declaring Loftus lost by one wicket to New Marske. Holgarth gave the New Marske reply a good send off with 34 and Alderson added 35 before Porritt (20) and Ovington (23no) added valuable runs towards the runs. Morrison with three for 50, Pearson (2-27) and Hogan (2-27) claimed most of the Loftus wickets.

Batting first Loftus were pleased at the form of Tyreman who made a top scoring 39 and Bowman who contributed 35 before Dobson (23) and Codling (21no) took the score to 175 for seven declared. Porritt claimed five of the seven wickets for 65 runs.
