Falcon Motocross Club fire off a round of the NETT Quad championship at Castleside on Sunday with a full supporting solo cast on the long broad acres of Long Edge Moto Parc where all the main four wheel exponents will perform in championship and support races.

The series is tight at present, John Mitchell, all the way from Stornway, heads the championship from Paul Winrow (Chester le Street) and Richard Tordoff (Halifax) with 250cc champion Willy Waggot Carlisle) just a point adrift.

Lindsey Duke (Crook) and David Baldwin (Bishop Auckland) and Castleside newcomer Scott Murray will be on hand to keep the presure on the top riders.

Support supremo Ian Hutchinson (Durham) from has inserted a 25 point gap over Michael Wheatley (Hetton le Hole) and Malcolm Scott (Lanark).

Wheatley is in his first season on four wheels but has raced solo machines for four years.

In the same class will be paint sprayer Paul Dickinson (Chester le Street), Micky Reed, also from the same town and a plasterer by trade.

Mark Pearson repairs telecommunication equipment by day but the 36 year from Blackhill also competes in rallying, autocross and banger racing. Stockton company director Peter Overton races a 250 Yamaha in his third year in quad racing.

Mark Gamble is one of the youngest riders in the field and lives at Coulby Newham and list his least favourite track as Witton Castle while the veteran of the pack, at 45, is Paul Barnfather, from Chester-le-Street, and he had races sidecars, on and off the road, well over a decade before switching to four wheels two years ago.

Paul will travel to any track, and lists his hobby as travelling.

His pre-race diet is tea, milk and sugar, and his most respected rival is British champion Paul Winrow.

Six quad races are on the programme and a further nine solo races will fill the afternoon. The Coop Milk Division will sponsor the quad championship.

Racing will start at 11am, immediately after practice.

The Club may hire a large screen television projector so that fans can watch the football as well as the racing.
