SINCE reforming Spraire Lasses two years ago we have gone from strength to strength.

2000-2001 Tyne Tees Girls League champions U10s Rachel McKnight was awarded player of the year for the whole of the league from opposition manager votes.

The U12s and 13s battled away but due to players leaving were unable to play many league games.

Season 2001-02 Tyne Tees North League champions won by six clear points, lost one league game the week after winning the championship.

President league cup winner after an exciting 4-3 victory over Reyrolles Kestrels , a semi-final 7-1 win against Newcastle and a great victory 4-1 against South Durham Royals in the final. Last summer they only had four under 13s players and they joined in with Reyrolles Kestrels who had three players. After a poor start losing two our of the first three games the girls steadily improved. Near the end of the season we played Blyth in the cup and lost 25-0. The next week we travelled to Blyth in our last league game needing a draw to be North League runners-up. Against all the odds the girls gained a 1-1 draw.

John Boyd did an excellent job as coach and the club would like to thank the girls along this far.

Unders-11s Player of the Year and Player of the year Rachel McKnight, who has recently been named player of the Season for the second consecutive year for the Tyne Tees Girls League, most improved player Keely Edwards.

* A free session for girl and boy footballers will be held on Saturday June 29 between 9.30 and 11.30am at South Park, Darlington.

Girls 7-16 years and Boys 9-11 years are welcome.

Old Spraire Lads and Lasses should attend with interested new players. UEFA B qualified coach Mark Scott will conduct the session.
