Fifteen-year-old Claire Wilson brings the curtain down on a long season when she lines up for England Under 18s in the home international championships in Cardiff this weekend.
The 2001/2002 season has been one of non stop success for Darlington, and their No 1 girl will be the youngest player in the England team, joining 17-year-olds Annabel Sorrentino (Cheshire), Katy Ingham (Lancashire) and Kerry Radford (Notts).
Claire has helped the Darlington club to a British League title, and taking the national junior girls team title, winning the coveted Bromfield trophy. In addition she has was unbeaten as Durham County took the County Championships with a 100 per cent win record, in both junior and senior divisions, and having taken three from five women's titles in the English senior Grand Prix series. The Darlington No 1 Is hoping to emulate club mate David Meads, who celebrated his' England debut with a 100 per cent record as England took the Under 12 home international championship title in Dublin back in April.
Just back from the club's successful trip to the World Youth Championships, Claire has the right preparation to make a major impact and Cardiff could well be the springboard to further success. Only a seven-week break will follow before Claire and the rest of the rapidly improving Darlington squad will embark on their quest for further national glory When the new season starts with the Liverpool Grand Prix.
