TRAINING matters may have to go before a council's new scrutiny committee in future in the wake of a controversy over an adventure training trip for 11 senior executives.
Richmondshire District Council has had to fend off criticism since it emerged that the authority sent the group on a two-day stay at Adrenalin UK, at Aske Hall, and two nights at the upmarket Greta Bridge Hotel, costing a total of more than £7,000.
Councillor John Harris has suggested it may help defuse public disquiet if the authority agrees that future training packages are sanctioned by the council's overview and scrutiny committee.
When members meet on Thursday, Councillor Harris will also suggest the committee examines the authority's training budget over the past three years, compares its policies and programmes with councils of a similar size, studies evidence about the effectiveness of training, and requests the views of officers at all levels within the authority.
