Police have warned of expected traffic delays at Newcastle Racecourse, Gosforth today and tomorrow.
Delays on the A1 and A1056 Sandy Lane area, could have a knock-on effect to the A1 north and south, Brunton Park, Wide Open and Gosforth area, both before and after events.
The Northumberland Plate meeting starts today at 11am and ends 5pm. Tomorrow, the Feel the Noise concert starts at 10.30am and finishes at 5pm.
WOMEN'S FORUM: The Labour Women's Forum is meeting today in the Thistle Hotel, opposite the central railway station in Newcastle, at 3pm. The main theme of the meeting is devolution and the speakers are Joyce Liddle, Campaign for a North-East Assembly executive member, and Geraldine Ormonde, chairman of the North-East Constitutional Convention Women's Forum.
BRIDGE TILTINGS: The Gateshead Millennium Bridge will be tilting at the following times to allow a pleasure boat, the Island Scene, to pass underneath: 2.55pm, 3.10pm, 7.35pm and 7.55pm today; 12.05pm and 12.45pm tomorrow: 10.35am and 10.55am on Monday; 10.15am and 10.35am on Tuesday. There will be further closures daily until Monday, July 8.
TUNING IN: Primary schools in the region are taking part in a radio and television project. More than 20 schools have submitted entries to BBC Radio Newcastle for the Sense of Place for Schools project. Children, aged between nine and ten years old, were asked to produce work using six key themes linking to the current National Curriculum that characterise their own Sense of Place. Pupils have submitted poetry, pictures, paintings, photographs, videos, a tapestry and songs for the project. The winners will be invited to Radio Newcastle to talk about their work, which will be broadcast on Wednesday, at 3.30pm.
SHAKESPEARE PLAY: Newcastle's Blackfriars, in Monk Street, will provide the setting for a performance of Shakespeare's Richard III at 7.30pm on Thursday. Performed in the courtyard of the city's 12th Century friary, people will be encouraged to bring their own chairs or rugs. SQUADRONAIRES: The New Squadronaires Orchestra is performing big band music at the Arts Centre, Darlington next Friday, at 8pm. The young musicians perform in RAF uniforms worn during the Second World War. Tickets cost £10.50 or £8.50 concessions. Contact (01325) 486555 for details.
PARTY BOOKING: Ottaka's bookshop, in Darlington, is having a party day next Saturday in a whirl of music, books and fun. Local band, Jayhazy will be playing from 11am to 12.30pm. TREKKERS CALL:Marie Curie Cancer Care is looking for people interested in taking part in a trek on the Inca Trail, the Annapurna Trek, or the Vietnam Cycle Ride.
