FUNDRAISERS pounded through the grounds of a stately home in a bid to pay for improvements in the cure of cancer.
About 2,000 women arrived at Ormesby Hall, Middlesbrough, to take part in the Middlesbrough Race for Life, organised like scores of similar events across Britain, by Cancer Research UK.
Councillor Eric Jackson, Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, and Middlesbrough Mayor Ray Mallon started the weekend event, with those taking part hoping to raise £80,000.
The charity aims to raise £12m nationally to fund its work to prevent, treat and cure cancer.
A range of ages from babies in pushchairs to grandmothers ran, jogged or walked the five kilometre course, many wearing pink ribbons in memory of loved ones who have died of the disease.
