TWO intrepid teams of fire service staff scaled three peaks in aid of charity.
Colleagues from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Brigade undertook the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of County Durham Macmillan Cancer Relief.
They set off for Scotland last Thursday night and climbed Ben Nevis, followed by Scafell and Mount Snowdon, being driven from peak to peak.
The trip marked the third time fire service staff had embarked on the challenge, which must be completed in 24 hours, and they attempted to better previous years' times to win gold medals.
Sue McPherson, brigade finance and business manager, said both teams did well.
"We both managed to finish, and we haven't had the official times yet, but one got gold, with a time of 18 hours and 37 minutes, and the other got silver, with 20 hours and 13 minutes."
