ROWING novices took to the water for their own version of a North-East regatta on Saturday.
The All-Comers is a fun regatta that runs every year, a couple of weeks after the main Durham Regatta, for people who have not rowed before but would like to experience the sport.
The novice crews are trained by qualified rowing coaches during five sessions in May and June, then compete in racing fours against other similar crews.
This year, for the first time, Durham Amateur Rowing Club extended the concept to companies, inviting them to take part for fun or as a team-building exercise.
The club was established in 1860, and last year was named the leading rowing club in the North, winning 188 events.
Extensions and improvements to its clubhouse are planned as part of a drive to involve people in the sport, including its Project Oarsome scheme for disabled and disadvantaged people.
