HOUSING strategy proposals for homes in Grangetown North, near Redcar, are to be discussed at an open meeting at the Youth and Community Centre, on the Trunk Road, Grangetown, tonight.
Presentations will be made by the Single Regeneration Budget Partnership, Tees Valley Housing Group, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and the local residents' association.
RUBBISH FIRE: Flames from a fire started in rubbish in a loading bay at the rear of Bell's store, Roseberry Square, Redcar, spread to the shop which was 100 per cent smoke-logged.
SHOWCASE SCHOOL: The new Rye Hills School, Redcar, is holding an open day for prospective pupils and parents and interested members of the public tomorrow. Current pupils will guide visitors around the building and its facilities.
GREEN LESSONS: Overfields Primary School, Middlesbrough, has won a Yorkshire Bank Educational Award to design and cultivate its grounds. Parents and residents have been recruited to help children plant flowers and trees, and to install trellis, pebbles and bird houses.
TOP STUDENT: Martyn Davies, who is studying graphic design at the University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, won first prize in the national student Design Awards competition. He won a new computer and an exclusively commissioned glass sculpture.
CHARITY CATWALK: A fashion show, in aid of the Butterwick Children's Hospice, will be held at the Dickens Inn, Middlesbrough, tomorrow evening. Clothes will be modelled from fashion houses Bliss and Yakuza, with hair and make up provided by Holga's Hair.
SPY THEMES: The Tees Valley Youth Brass Band will play music from James Bond films at a concert at Ian Ramsey School, Green's Lane, Stockton, on Wednesday, July 10. There will also be a licensed bar, plus a Bond trivia quiz and a raffle.
OPEN ART: The doors of the refurbished art department at Prior Pursglove College, Guisborough, will be thrown up to public gaze tonight. On display will be students' examination work, ranging from paintings and 3D, to fashion, textiles, photography and mosaics.
