BIKE riders are being invited to visit a village's annual show for free next weekend.
A 22-mile round cycle trip from Chester-le-Street to Lanchester Show, on Saturday, is being organised by Durham County Council as part of the On Yer Bike campaign to encourage more people to cycle short journeys to benefit the environment and to get exercise.
Cyclists will travel on the off-road C2C Sunderland to Consett route to Annfield Plain then drop down hill to Lanchester.
Registered riders will get free entry to the show and an area will be reserved to secure cycles while they enjoy the show's attractions.
They can also join the On Yer Bike tug-of-war team that will be competing at the show.
Volunteers and council staff will marshal the ride and there will be a back-up van.
A council spokesman said: "The emphasis is on safety and socialising, rather than speed and endurance."
To take part in the ride, which starts at Chester-le-Street Civic Centre at 10.15am, book a place with Elaine Wood on 0191-383 3745.
