THIEVES used oxyacetylene torches to burn through the locks on a steel door when they broke into workshops in a village.
The burglary happened in Heighington between 4.30pm on Friday and 8.30am on Saturday. Once inside the buildings, the thieves stole a Bosch 9in grinder, an Atlas 3.5in grinder, an oxyacetylene torch, a box of Clarke titanium coated drills and two electric plugs. NEW SERVICE: Bus operator Go North East has introduced an extra summer service for Bishop Auckland bus users. The 90A will provide links between Bishop Auckland town centre, Princes Street, Etherley Lane and Woodhouse Close and will run every hour during the day, Monday to Saturday. The service 104, which operates from Newfield, Byers Green, Binchester to Bishop Auckland, has also been revised to run three minutes earlier.
FAMILY RAMBLE: Thornley Village Hall Association is inviting walkers to join a family ramble on Sunday. James Finlinson leads the four-mile trek and Carol Gent will provide details about local history along the route. It starts from the hall, at 2pm, and will take about two hours. Sponsor forms are available. A short prize quiz will be held after the walk.
film nights: The movie Shrek will be showing at Sedgefield Community College on Friday. There will be a repeat screening on Saturday in Mordon Village Hall. Admission is £1.50. For more details contact (01740) 620042.
SUMMER FAIR: The Salvation Army hosts its annual summer fair, at the Worship and Community Centre, in Cross Street, Shildon, on Saturday, July 13, at 2pm. There will be a variety of stalls, activities and refreshments.
FLOWER JUDGING: The Northumbria in Bloom judges will be visiting Sedgefield Village on the morning of July 10. The Sedgefield in Bloom committee is appealing to residents to ensure their gardens are tidy.
DANCE CONTEST: Chilton Community College dance teacher Clare Walton is holding her first slow and freestyle dance competition at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on Sunday, July 14, from 10am. Entry fee is £6.50.
ART EVENT: Ingleton Art Group will present its annual art exhibition in Ingleton Village Hall on Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. Admission is free and the event will include strawberry teas and a raffle.
FASHION FUNDRAISER: The Friends of Hunwick Primary School have arranged a fashion show tomorrow at 7pm. Tickets are £1, children are admitted free.
