MARGARET Bowtell had a century of stories to tell family and friends when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
About 150 people helped Mrs Bowtell mark her special day with a party at All Saints Church, Ferryhill.
Born in Tudhoe in 1902, Mrs Bowtell has lived in the same house in Barrington Terrace, Ferryhill, for more than 65 years. A member of the Bowtell family has lived in the house since it was built for workers at the Dean and Chapter Colliery.
Mrs Bowtell moved there with her husband, Robert, in the 1930s, taking over from his father. The couple's daughter, Kath, now lives there.
Most of Mrs Bowtell's four children, ten grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren attended her birthday celebration.
She was presented with flowers by Councillor Charlie Magee, chairman of Durham County Council, who also gave her a bottle of whisky signed by Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Ferryhill Mayor Councillor Ken Campbell and Deputy Mayor Councillor Doreen Greenwell presented Mrs Bowtell with a bouquet at her home
