A VILLAGE community is to lose one of its recycling centres after a string of complaints about excessive noise.
Hambleton District Council had been working for several months to save the glass recycling banks at the Buck Inn, Great Ayton.
But, after collecting noise data from neighbouring homes during recent weeks, officers agreed that the banks should be removed.
Head of environmental health Eric Kendall said: "Residents have been complaining about the noise levels at these banks - both day and night - for some time now.
"We have asked recyclers to be more considerate and not take their glass to the banks at unsociable hours, but to no avail. The recent collection of sound data from one neighbour's house showed the levels to be too high, so we are removing the banks."
Mr Kendall said the can, paper and textile banks would remain at the site unless a new home could be found for all the recycling bins.
The nearest glass recycling banks are at Yatton House in Great Ayton, Safeway in Stokesley and the household waste recycling centre in Stokesley
