On their marks for fun run
THE annual Yarm Fun Run, organised by the Yarm District Lions Club, in conjunction with Conyers School, will take place on Sunday. This three-and-a-quarter mile run for all ages will start from Conyers School at 1pm and finish at Snaith Field, at the top of Bentley Wynd.
There will be prizes for the winners in the five male and female sections, which range from the youngest group, under-nines, to the seniors, over-16, and for the winner of the wheelchair section, plus fancy dress and spot prizes. Local MP Dari Taylor will be at the finish to present the prizes. Application for entry is now closed, but entries on the day may be accepted if time permits.
SUMMER FETE: Egglescliffe School fete will take place on Saturday, from 11am to 3pm. About Time, the school band, will provide entertainment. Other attractions include an assault course, bouncy castle, archery, games, sideshows and a football competition. Refreshments will be available. FORGING LINKS: New members are welcome to join the Links WI group, which meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the main hall at All Saint's Church, Swinburne Road, Eaglescliffe, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. STRAWBERRY TEA: A strawberry tea held at the home of Megan Opie raised £325 for the Friends of the Victorian Eaglescliffe fund for Preston and Eaglescliffe memorial park. The next fundraising event will be a table top sale, which includes craft stalls and tombola. It will be held on Saturday, July 27, from 10am to noon, in Eaglescliffe village hall. Admission is 50p. The price includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
SEQUENCE DANCING: All are welcome to take part in sequence dancing at the Egglescliffe Community Centre, on Tuesday evenings from 8pm to 10.30pm. Admission is £1. For further information contact (01642) 890311.
WORKOUT CASH: Girls at Teesside High School, Eaglescliffe, gave up a lunchtime to take part in a sponsored aerobics workout in support of Lepra, which works to combat leprosy.
JUBILEE PHOTOGRAPHS: Photographs taken by Owen Evans of the Worsall Golden Jubilee celebration are on display in the village hall supper room. Order forms are available.
ECHO SPEAKER: Peter Barron, editor of The Northern Echo, will be the speaker at the next meeting of Yarm WI, to be held on Tuesday, July 16. The competition at that meeting will be for the oldest newspaper.
