A HIT-AND-RUN driver who mounted the pavement and left an 11-year-old boy needing hospital treatment is being hunted by police.
The boy was injured in the incident on The Green in Thornton-le-Dale, in North Yorkshire, at about 8pm last night.
The accident happened on the A170 Helmsley to Scarborough road when a car, travelling from the direction of Pickering, failed to negotiate a left-hand bend, crossed the carriageway and struck the boy as he stood on the pavement near the village stream.
The car, which was yellow and may have been a Triumph TR6 or TR7, failed to stop after the accident and headed off towards Scarborough.
The boy, who lives locally, suffered leg injuries and was taken to Malton Hospital for treatment, although he was later discharged.
The car is likely to have suffered some damage to the front offside in the incident.
Any witnesses to the accident, or anyone who knows anything about the vehicle, is asked to ring PC Matt Knowles, at Malton Police Station on (01653) 692424.
